A four week trip racing north from Braidwood to Cairns and then west to Litchfield NP in the Northern Territory before cutting back through western Queensland.

 Fletcher Creek, north of Charters Towers, Qld
Fletcher Creek is an easy overnight stop heading north of Charters Towers, and has a great variety of dragonflies. Good camping. Read more.
 Archer River, near Ravenshoe, Qld.
Archer River is a beautiful, clean river with an abundance of dragonflies. Tracks lead off the highway to several camp sites along the river, although flat sites are few. Great swimming and camping. Read more.
 Henrietta Creek
A great camping area in Wooroonooran National Park, in the Atherton Tablelands. Wonderful variety of tropical species to be found along the creek and the walks. Read more.
 Granite Gorge
A private nature park near Mareeba, Qld. Read more.
 Mount Molloy
We stopped here for lunch in the town park. Read more.
 Walsh River
A quick stop as we headed west. Some interesting species can be found within easy walk of the bridge. Read more.
 Lawn Hill, NW of Mt Isa, Qld.
A very popular spot, Lawn Hill National Park has a big campsite and wondeful lagoons where you can canoe and swim through the gorge. Great wildlife and worth the long drive to get there. Very busy in the peak season, empty just before the wet season hits (because it's very hot). Read more.
 Elsey National Park, near Mataranka, NT.
A good stopover on the way to or from Darwin, Elsey NP has easy camping and good swimming. It's really worth doing the 4km walk to Mataranka Falls, because just downstream Salt Creek joins the Roper River from the south (you can hike and camp at the junction). Salt creek has wonderful swimming holes made from Tufa (calcium deposit stone formations) and interesting dragonflies. Read more.
 Umbrawarra Gorge NP
A short detour west of the main highway from Pine Creek brings you to a seemingly dry creek with a small parking area and walk. The walk is worth it, with a beautiful gorge and great dragonflies. There's just enough water to cool off with a dip during the walk. Read more.
 Litchfield National Park
Litchfield National Park used to be a recreation area and 4WD playground before being turned over to National Park management. It has some of the best waterfalls and creeks in Australia, and many consider it a better place to visit and camp than Kakadu. Definietly worth the visit, with a lot of dragonfly species about. However it's pretty busy with tourists all year round. Read more.
 Butterfly Gorge, Limmen National Park
Limmen National Park lies between Roper Bar and Boroloola on the Savannah Way. Butterfly Gorge is a small camping area on a small creek cutting through a rocky ridge. It's a good overnight stop. Read more.
 Auburn River National Park
The Auburn River gorge has a gravel camping area and a steep walk down to the river. The river wasn't running in December, but that didn't stop the wildlife. Read more.
 Mann River
Back in NSW again, making our way south via the state forests and national parks. Mann River is lovely area for camping. Read more.
 Platypus Flat, Nymboida River.
A great camping area right on the river. Read more.

Excellent report, thanks! It's great to start seeing some top-end stuff appearing. I am very close now to being able to upload the historic Victorian dragonflies data.
